I recently gave birth to my first baby at the Royal Free hospital, and all i can say is that i felt like a lamb being sent for slaughter. The midwives I saw there on night duty constantly fought amongst each other.
The ones I met seemed to have no regard for their patients, and when i arrived on the labour ward, despite my pregnancy plan stating that i wanted a water birth as my pregnancy was a straightforward one, I was looked upon as being mad, with one midwife stating "a waterbirth at this time of the night you will be lucky".
I am horrified that this behaviour carried on all the way through to postnatal ward, where I was only offered something to drink by a very kind student midwife, she restored my faith in mankind by sitting with me to help me breastfeed my daughter.
In my experience, the midwives I met at the Royal Free labour ward seemed to be uncaring individuals who should be ashamed of how they treat women duing this vunurable time.
