I went to have my feet checked and nails cut recently. I have been to this clinic previously and never had a problem. However, this time there was a member of staff doing the podiatry care. I was horrified when, suddenly, I saw blood oozing from my big toe either side of the nail. The member of staff told me they had cut my toe. They asked me if I was diabetic, put a dressing on my toe and said it would be fine, to leave the dressing on for a couple of days and I was sent home. Being 84 year old and disabled, I had to rely on the help of my son and a couple of friends to help clean the wounds that the podiatrist had made. My daughter-in-law contacted the podiatry service today to speak about what had happened and was told they couldn't see what the problem was. They didn't want to know. They told her, "Cuts happen from time to time. I don't see what the issue is."
My daughter-in-law pointed out my age and that I am disabled. She asked what if this happened to someone of a similar age with nobody to help. All she was told was that it would be noted on the system. What has happened to care for the elderly and disabled.
Completely unsatisfactory!
