"Ward 308 - thank you"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology Services

(as the patient),

I was admitted straight from my GP to ward 308 on Tuesday afternoon having been very unwell since the early hours of the morning. I was sent from the GP to hospital at 4pm, I was in a bed on the ward by half 5.

The doctors that I saw first - Nina and another lady similar in age whose name escapes me - were lovely. They were both so kind and caring and made me feel totally at ease. They helped me feel less scared, by not pushing me to do anything that would hurt or upset me further. Everything necessary was taken at my own pace or arranged to be done in circumstances that I'd be comfortable with. I was given an active role in the decision making process about the immediate care and investigations and options for further treatment/investigations.

I was admitted to the ward for the night to be given strong pain relief and the nurses - Sarah most especially - were lovely. Sarah admitted me and she was so lovely, made me laugh even when I was exhausted and worried. I was given the strong pain relief promised (and given plenty of reassurance that morphine wouldn't be awful! ).

I am relieved that my experience was a positive one - it hasn't always been so, and I just wanted to make sure that the staff get the recognition they deserve. If I am admitted to gynae again I really hope those three especially are still there!
