What I liked
Wow NHS Barnsley! What a brilliant service, my initial GP appointment on 09.03.10, my consultation 19.03.10 and my operation 14.04.10. How wonderful to be diagnosed (total left hip replacement - osteoarthritis) and operated on in such a short space of time. Of all the staff of the many departments who were involved in my treatment and care, I can only say how professional and caring everyone was. These people are dedicated and my special thanks to all the night staff on Ward 34E after a faulty buzzer and leaky catheter created extra work on my first night in hospital. Despite this, we all saw the funny side and the care I received was second to none.
On food, there was a varied menu and the roast turkey for Sunday lunch was delicious. A good selection of hot and cold drinks were served on a regular basis
The ward itself was exceptionally clean and tidy and cleaning was carried out on a regular basis.
Upon discharge, even the porter was very caring and 'went the extra mile' to ensure I didn't bang my head when getting into the car, as I was obviously concentrating on not banging my hip! Thank you.
What could be improved
May I suggest that the policy/protocol on allergies could be reviewed, as I had to politely remind some members of staff of my latex allergy.
Anything else?
I would not hesitate to recommend Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and would like to say a huge thank you to all involved, I am very grateful.
