"Patchy care on SEW stay"

About: Broomfield Hospital / Accident and emergency NHS 111

(as the patient),

I was an unplanned admission last Friday night. A&E great - seen within 2. 5 hours and pain relief administered before going to the ward.

Once on SEW I was very well looked after by the nursing staff, and the doctor on the ward was very kind and helpful.

The registrars and consultants were not so great - they didn't know which patient was which, despite our names being above our heads. Very concerning to see senior medics using scraps of paper with notes jotted on them instead of our actual files. Privacy on the ward was non-existent; curtains are not sound proof!

Examined in the morning - was mildly alarmed when he examined my pelvic area without warning or asking permission to do so.

Taken for an ultrasound by a lovely porter. Once I arrived at the ultrasound suite I found out I was also to have an x-ray. Not by any medical staff telling me, by another porter telling my porter in the corridor within my earshot. Information governance and patient confidentiality, anyone?

My partner and daughter were allowed access to the ward to visit me, outside of visiting hours - not a problem for me but it does make me wonder what kind of security protocol you're trying to implement?

Discharged quicker than expected, but with an instruction around what was going to be done to me, rather than a discussion around my options and pros/cons.

On the plus side - pharmacy working well on a weekend; discharged with my drugs.
