"The treatment we received helped us accept her loss"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Blood vessel problems

(as a relative),

My mother was admitted to ward 11C in September and then transferred to ward 11D the next day. Very quickly it became clear that her condition had deteriorated and that she was too frail for vascular surgery. We realised that it was unlikely she would survive. She subsequently died early October 2016. From the minute she was admitted she was treated with respect and kindness and I could not fault the treatment she received. As a family we will be eternally grateful for this and it has helped us accept her loss.

The dedication and professionalism was amazing. Mr Hussey and his team could not have been more caring or compassionate and treated my mother with respect and dignity. His kindness and frankness to the whole family was greatly appreciated. All of the nurses who cared for my mother and all of he HCW were kindness itself. They gave us the space and time to say goodbye to an amazing woman that we love very much and she had the opportunity to tell us she loved us amid tears and laughter. This was a good death and as a family were consoled my the manner in which she slipped away. Thank you to all who helped care for my mother throughout her life but particular thanks who helped her at the end. You gave us precious time, The QUEH is an amazing building but I recognise the nursing challenges of caring for patients in individual rooms this made the care doubly special.

A Grateful Duaghter

Firstly, I am sorry to hear about the loss of your mother, this must be a difficult time for you and your family. I found what you have shared here on Patient Opinion to be very moving. I am glad to read that your mother was treated with dignity and respect and especially kindness throughout her care. What you have described here about the care that was extended to you and your family at such a difficult time is very meaningful and I am glad you all had that precious time that you explained.

Like your other post about the Green Practice, Govan Health Centre, I will ensure that your kind words are passed on to the staff in Ward 11C and Ward 11D. They will be glad to read that the care they provided meant so much to you and your family.

My thoughts are with you at this time.
