What I liked
very little...... there a couple of midwifes who care and are thorougher in what they do. I found my midwives to be very good.. they worked on ADU and you will be lucky to see them.
I am 37 + 3 days pregant with my 2nd child
What could be improved
Everything... they treat you as if you are nothing, the level of care is so minimal. I wanted to go to Stepping Hill because i thought that the Mat department was meant to be good, on my booking in appointment i was advised that i would see the same midwife as much as possible (i have seen her twice, three times at the most) you get passed round to different midwifes who advise different information and there are very few consultants that you will ever meet its all their juniors so you can imagine how info is never really accurate.
Instead of me going on i will summarise my experiences for one of the times i was admitted to Mat Ward 2 from ADU on Friday 23rd April 2010. I was admitted to suspected pre eclampsia i had raised BP, protein in urine (which had been collected with the 24hr), excessive swelling and visual probs, this was a concern to the midwife who i had seen prior in ADU. I saw the consultant who wasnt mine at about 3pm who advised i was to be monitored regularly and i would be reviewed again on Monday by my named consultant. Care by the midwifes was minimal they are short staffed and have the ladies who have had C sections to look after....
The on the Monday i was advised by my consultant that i needed to do another 24hr urine collection and this would finish on the Tuesday and i would be able to go once this was done, then would be reviewed again by ADU on Thursday and if all ok by him the Wednesday after... FINE. The midwife on Tuesday was terrible, the time was about 12pm and i had been across to the room infront where a friend had just had her baby (also very unimpressed with the care shown at Mat 2) to return to my bed to see my discharge papers and notes left on my bed hmmm ok, so what was i to do with the 24 hr collection that was supposed to be handed in at 2:45pm?? I went to find the midwife and they were in a meeting which went on for about an hr, so i walk up and down trying to find out whether i can go or not. ..
Anything else?
On sitting there i decided to read my discharge notes, and noticed that the time of discharge was 1:50pm (urine didnt finish until 2:45pm). I had had enough by this point and was on my way out when i bumped into another midwfie who was lovely, i advised her of the 'show' i had just had and she advised i should be going no where and i should inform the midwife & she would also. Well, the comment was ive discharged you now what do you want me to do, i can re admit you if thats what you want? I said to her you havent even collected by urine, she said oh i didnt know you had finished it!! Pathetic, uncaring and wrong.... i said you know what just forget it and left the hospital.... I hope someone in authority reads this and sees that care like this is not nice or deserved, my motto for hospital is everyone is equally important, remember how you would like to be treated if it was you...
"very little...... there a couple ..."
