Had a very positive experience with my first baby at Lister. 2nd baby not so good, arrived on Midwife led unit (9pm) to be told my baby was big (first I'd heard) so had to go to the ward to wait for a bed on consultant led. Was found a bed and waited for a hour, got taken down to delivery while being told I had taken a bed other ladies who might go in to labour needed. At this point I was 40+4 so they should have been expecting me really. Got shown to our delivery room, midwife arrived and complained they had had to get out of bed to come and see me. Now about 11pm, labour progressing quickly as first one did. Informed midwife of my quick labour with first baby. Labour progressed, checked 2 hours later and told I had another 4/5 hours to go. 20 mins later I tell my midwife I need them, the midwife tells me they will check me in a bit. 2 minutes later my babies head is out, panic alarms rung. Baby now stuck as he's big and the midwife is not ready. No birth pack, room temperature not high enough. Other midwives rush in to help. Baby finally born, my midwife has no idea what time he arrived. He's rushed off to NICU and I send my husband with him. I'm rushed in to the shower 20 mins after birth then left on my own in my delivery room for 2 hours with no information on my baby and no one checking me. If I'd been a first time mum I would have been traumatised by this birth, thankfully I know it can be better.
