My wife was admitted to the assessment ward (2b) a little under four weeks ago following a blood diagnosis of a anemia condition. There appeared to be something of a confused approach by the ward staff as to what treatment was required. After four blood infusions, an iron infusion, an endoscopy, and being moved ward three times, they were discharged after three days. We were told a colonoscopy was required as an out patient together with a further iron infusion to be arranged.A nurse also tried to take blood from another patient thinking they were my wife! It was only when my wife told them they had got the wrong lady did she realise their error.
During discharge at 10pm the patient across from my wife had at least ten female visitors around the bed which I am sure should not have been allowed. We were relieved to be going home as we felt uncomfortable by the whole experience. We never received any contact for the second iron infusion because the ward had allocated the wrong consultant to my wife's case.Consequently no prescription was issued. My wife has now been diagnosed with bowel cancer. It does not bode well going forward and very little confidence in the hospital of Calderdale.
