About: Tameside General Hospital / Accident and emergency

We visited Tameside A&E at around 1am on a Thursday in mid August. My partner had had spinal surgery at Salford Royal the previous day but the wound on his back had swelled considerably so we were advised to go to our local A&E department. It wasnt long before my partner was seen by a triage nurse and we were then given the impression that it would not be long before he would be taken through for further examination. The waiting room was not particularly busy but after several hours of waiting we began to question how much longer the wait would be. My partner was unable to sit down all the time we were waiting due to the post op discomfort. The receptionist was apologetic but could not advise on how much longer it would be. I was very concerned that my partner was not getting the rest he needed and after 4 hours we decided to go home and the swelling had mostly gone down. At this point my partner was offered a bed to lie on but again they were unable to say how long the wait would be. We paid nearly £5 for the privilege of the car parking space a day returned home exhausted but glad to be out of the depressing waiting room. Thank goodness for the Olympics on the TV screen but the sight of 2 used sample pots on the window sill plus other litter was not very pleasant. Not an experience we wish to repeat!
