"Pain Management Clinic"

About: Falkirk Community Hospital Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Neurology

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was referred onto the Pain Management clinic by the Neurology Dept in April and was finally seen in October. During the consultation the Doctor was very thorough, very pleasant and listened to my daughter. He outlined our options and his recommended course of treatment - excellent service!

The course of treatment recommended was Acupuncture, my daughter was asked to fill out pain diaries for 3 months, at this time he told us they would be useful as would help show improvement or otherwise of the Acupuncture treatment. We left him, and were directed to a desk to arrange the appointment.

The first available appointment we were offered was mid January, greater than 3 months (18 weeks referral to treatment? ? ), and clearly outwith the time of her pain diaries.

It would be helpful if consultants were aware of timescales to treatment, so that during discussions it was clear, I was left wondering if the consultant had any idea that my daughter would not receive any treatment until 2017.

Response from NHS Forth Valley We have made a change

Dear 5406

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback about your recent experience.

We were pleased to hear that the staff looked after your daughter well and took the time to explain everything to your daughter. Our staff work hard to ensure our patients are given the highest possible standard of care. It is lovely to be able to share positive feedback, which reflects the staffs hard work and dedication.

In relation to the waiting time for your daughter's acupuncture appointment, I can only apologise with regards to your wait. Acupuncture is a very sought after service and this causes problems with capacity. I have taken on board your concerns, and have spoken to the staff. We have agreed, that to help relieve the waiting time we will put on additional acupuncture services. I would be very grateful if you could contact the pain clinic regarding this.

Kind Regards

Dr Judith Wilson
