I attended the outpatients department as an NHS patient for 18 months and received very good care. The reception staff and nurses were pleasant and efficient and there was very little waiting around. The consultant explained everything well, was very thorough and sent me for the scans and tests I needed. The consultant's secretary was helpful when appointments needed to be changed. When my condition worsened the consultant arranged for me to be admitted to the hospital for an operation to remove part of my bowel (June 2016). The operation went well with a good outcome, and the aftercare I received was outstanding. I spent the first night in the HDU, where the team were very kind and attentive, and both the consultant and the anaesthetist came to see me there. I was transferred to Ward 1 the next day, where I stayed for 8 days. The nursing staff were excellent and were so friendly and helpful, as were the catering staff and the cleaning staff. The consultant came to check on me every day. The rooms on Ward 1 are comfortable and clean, and the food is not like hospital food. The atmosphere is calm and quiet, so you can rest and sleep well at night. I was very apprehensive before the operation, but the whole experience was as good as it could have been and helped me make a quick recovery. Because the hospital is small, the staff can treat you as an individual and it is unlike any other hospital I have been in. I feel very fortunate to have been referred there.
