My recent visit to COCH was a first as an in- patient and it proved to be a very positive one. Following Chemotherapy treatment 10 days ago I developed an infection in the throat which required urgent attention - a late night visit to A&E last Saturday (not everybody's idea of a good night out) which was really well organised and brilliantly executed, despite the pressures. After assessment I was moved to AMU and smoothly treated whilst frequently monitored in a small side room to further protect me against other infections as the Chemotherapy treatment had impacted on white blood cells. As my condition improved so I was transferred to a modernised Unit which had 12 side rooms with en-suite or equivalent facilities where continued treatment and monitoring took place in a 'patient protected environment '. First class, so typically brilliant NHS but with a modern twist that would compete with anywhere and not a penny changed hands. Well done COCH , really proud of what you are doing and achieving so take a bow A&E, AMU and Ward 43 (plus an honourable mention for the much maligned Catering Services who do a pretty good Chicken and Leek Pie ) my grateful thanks for what you did for me.
