"A3 Station 2 Elderly Care"

I have visited my mother tonight on A3 station 2 after she was transferred from CCU (coronary care unit). Tonight is her first night on this ward. Upon visiting I am very concerned at the level of safety monitoring for patients with dementia and/or at high risk of falling. I witnessed patients getting off their beds and the seat alarms being set off, but several minutes went by before there was a response by nursing staff. I also witnessed an elderly man in the room opposite fall down and then he called out for nurses, I had to alert staff as no one attended. I have informed the nurses that my mum is always trying to get out of bed but has no mobility - this is due to partial hip replacement and wrist fractures, she also suffers with Parkinsons and dementia, and is awaiting physio and rehabilitation and so she is at high risk of falls. Mum has been on the hip-suite and CCU over the last month and I have been so impressed with the level of monitoring to keep her safe and free from falls. Therefore I expected that the elderly care unit would be geared up for the problems that elderly people present, but it appears to me that they are understaffed and rely on bed alarms to alert them to any problems. Really didn't want to leave my poor mum and think she would be safer at home.
