"Broken metatarsalso, 4nights stay"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Accident and emergency

Very happy with Triage, apart from reception not providing a wheelchair or crutch from entering and I was in obvious pain. Doctor, nurses and duty consultant, Xray staff, porters were all fabulous and explained all to me & helped keep me calm as in a little shock. Taken to Surgical Centre early hours and handover great. I really can't praise the Nurses, housekeeping and auxiliary enough, medication was always prompt, they kept me informed at all times and answered any questions. They went above and beyond there duty. You hear so much about the food and I was very surprised at how lovely and plentiful it was, even 11ams! Physiotherapy came down just before I was discharged, ten minutes on crutches was a shock and awful, not confident or fit enough for. They didn't ask about medical history, I tried to explain and told I couldn't have a zimmer and was fit. I used zimmer in hospital and no weight baring foot. Physio really let down, why not 5*, they were totally uninterested and I'd seen them with much older patients doing the same, no empathy or understanding of patients needs and worries. Fell when home and ordered zimmer from amazon for next day delivery, a godsend and really couldn't of managed and would of ended probably back in hospital and of caused more damage to foot. Ambulance back home and again staff great, from being wheeled from room to getting home, opened my house doors and made sure I was settled and if I'd had to wait I was told I could have a sandwich! Occupational therapist went to my next of Kin twice even though I had rang after first time, eventually spoke to member of staff, attitude stunk, negative and told to have strip wash and nothing they could do, I said I'd ask friend to help me in and out bath, they said dangerous and will look. I was so upset with their attitude I said I'd manage and didn't want to see them. All in all from Triage to Surgical Centre I can't praise enough for there care and going beyond duty and so friendly.

I was in shock, 47 yrs old lady always been independent and being one legged brings to home how much you do on your own in life, it takes away confidence and told will make injury worse of use foot. Physiotherapist with no empathy or understanding of situation let me and much older leave with crutches, which also bruise arms badly. Really let down and occupational therapy, surely aftercare is even more important so you don't end up making worse and back in hospital? Maybe they should spend a day on ward with nurses and staff and get to know and understand people and there needs and concerns...

Patient feedback is extremely important to us so thank you for taking the time to pass your comments over, it sounds like you have had a mixed experience with us. While it is great to hear that part of your experience was a positive one, it would be very useful if we could investigate your concerns further.

Please contact our PALS (patient advice and liaison service) team on 0800 953 0667 or pals@ghnt.nhs.uk so that we can find out more about what happened in your case.
