"The food was good and hot"

About: Macclesfield District General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The food was good and hot

What could be improved

The lack of all round care. The problem my father was admitted with was rectified during his fornights stay, however following a fall in hospital he left with less mobility and required much more help. He dislocated his shoulder which although was replaced left him with much reduced use of that arm this was not investigated and no physiotherapy was arranged. On leaving hospital his feet were that swollen he couldn't wear shoes or slippers and the skin was all dry and cracked due to lack of care. He also had an open wound which had been dressed after the fall but no follow up had been done in a week. On being discharged next of kin was not informed and he was transfered to the home by ambulance.

Anything else?

He had been in hospital in Oct 2009 with low blood pressure and slow heart rate for a fortnight he complained of a headache and found it very difficult to eat, also complained that his vision had detoriated, on being discharged his GP diagnosed temporal arteitis by which time he had lost his sight. This could have been avoided if someone knew what they were doing. If the staff were to work shorter hours each day and work more days there would be more continuity of care at the moment you see someone for two days then they disappear never to be seen again. Also no one seems to look after each person as a whole they are all a condition that needs to be rectified particularly elderly people that have so many health issues
