"vulnerable people in A and E"

My son was treated in A and E with a head injury,There was a particularly long waiting time,we were there for nearly 6 hours,as were many other people. Whilst I was there I noticed the complete lack of attention to several people who were vulnerable and alone. I saw a man with a severe cough who had mental health problems and a speech problem trying to get a drink of water, being ignored and moved on by 3 members of staff, not one of them directed him to the water.I found the water fountain for him, it was not easy to find .We were asked to sit in a small room to wait for my sons scan results. There were two elderly men in there, one of them was 92, blind and he was in a wheel chair parked with its breaks on directly in front of a small side room door. inside the side room was another elderly man who, in order to get out of the side room had climbed over the top of the other man and sat on him, he was also visually impaired and he had obvious mental health problems, after he had got off the 92 year old man, he got on all fours on the floor and talked at the other man in a very confused manner for several minutes which the other man was obviously finding stressful.I found the nurses station and informed the nurses what was going on, though I am quite sure that they could hear what was happening from their seats, they all glared at me then told me that the man on the floor was quite capable of getting up without help, I had to insist that they came to help, luckily the transport came for him hopefully to a place were he would be given some attention .The nurses left without paying any attention to the 92 year old, who told me he was very cold as he was sat directly under a ceiling fan,another patient went to find a blanket from the side rooms, there wasn't any, a patient who was in a bed around the corner donated his. I moved his chair to a warmer place and noticed that his trousers were soaking wet..Well done St. James.
