"Carpal tunnel procedure"

About: Crawley Hospital / Rheumatology

(as the patient),

I had a letter for a carpal tunnel procedure at Crawley Hospital. I arrived with my daughter who took time out from University to come with me. I was told that I was last on the list and to sit in the waiting room, with my daughter not allowed in. I waited for about an hour to be called in to see the consultant, who filled out form, asked me a few questions drew a black arrow on my right arm then went back into waiting room. Another hour or so as no idea of what time was, I was called in by nurse asking me about health issues and general questions back into waiting room for the next 5 hours it was only when everybody else had gone that I decided to turn on the television as I was getting very frustrated at the lack of communication as to what was going on that I realised it was now 3pm when a particular programme came on. Having not had any drink or food I was getting to say the least a bit fed up so decided to go and have a look outside then I saw my daughter sitting outside and to put it bluntly she was not very happy as to the long wait and lack of communication, it is about an hour and a half to get from her home to mine so she had to stay at the hospital. Eventually she was allowed in the waiting room with me only realising that she needed to put more money into the car parking meter no cash machine in the hospital she then had to go and find one. Having sorted out that we waited with know one telling us what was going on I got so fed up I went and asked they eventually decided that I could put on a gown over my clothes and to sit in the middle of a small office still not knowing when it would be my turn this was approx 5pm I got fed up with sitting there for an hour decided to go out to see my daughter and tell her what I had been doing she was not happy she is a young mum with two children so she had to get cover for the children and there was no one else to help. We sat for another hour and at approx 7pm someone came to collect me for my 20min procedure by the time I had waited for the doctor to appear which he did not a staff nurse spoke to me as to what to do after my procedure it was gone 8. 15 I just wanted to go home I had a very long wait in Crawley Hospital and I hope that this might be helpful to others who may be put through this ordeal.
