"Beyond a joke"

About: Harrogate District Hospital / Accident and emergency

Sent here by GP after an accident aggravated a spinal injury. Waited over an hour for triage then finally seen by a doctor who spoke so little English they couldn't understand what I was saying. Tried to get me to strip naked for an exam in an area with no shielding, open door, public going past and no gown. The whole thing was a joke. Never did get an examination as refused to undress in public. GP advised me to go back as hadn't been seen but after a 3 hour wait got another non English speaker who could not understand that the GP had asked me to attend and seemed only interested in why I had come back and why I had left rather than the medical issue. They appeared just to want to pick a fight.

The person was very confrontational and I didn't feel safe to have an invasive exam from someone behaving in such a hostile manner. Quote of the day when I told them I was concerned about patients in the waiting area who hadn't yet been triaged " Oh don't worry love our reception staff can tell from the look in someone's eyes if they're having a heart attack". I pointed out that this would be unlikely as they weren't clinical staff to be told "no but they've worked here years on that reception desk".

You really couldn't make it up. Steer clear at all costs. Go to LGI. They cope a lot better there when things get a little busy than Harrogate
