My husband had a heart attack in May 2016 and was given 4 different medications. Upon his visit to the heart function clinic this week, he was asked how he felt to which he told the nurse that he felt great, the best he’s felt in years!

He told them that he now workes out in the gym every day for an hour, something that he hasn’t done for years as he also has Multiple Sclerosis which is very painful.

After having his blood pressure taken which was normal, 120 over something, the nurse told him to cut down on his gym sessions to 30 minutes five times a week and that they were going to increase two of his medications!

We can’t understand why he wasn’t on the maximum dose of every medication that he needed when he was at his worse, which would have been in May just after his heart attack, not 5 months later when he is the picture of health and by his own admission, feels great!

He told the nurse that he is a vegan, he never drinks alcohol, his heart rate is normal, his blood pressure is normal and he feel great so why are they going to increase two of his meds? Because it’s the optimum dose they say!

Why does he have to cut down his exercise? Because your heart doesn’t like it they say!

He told the nurse that his blood pressure is low before and after working out,( I thought high blood pressure was the enemy!) he also told them that he has no symptoms of heart problems when he works out! They didn’t listen and just told him again to cut down on he’s exercise

He had a 24 hour ECG test a month ago, he carried out all his normal day to day activity including his hour long workouts, when they checked if the results were back they hadn’t received any! So they increased his medication and decreased his workout with no additional information in relation to his heart function!

He told the nurse that he takes an Ayuvedic remedy which is said to be very good for the heart and the blood. He also told them that he takes coenzyme Q10 which his GP told him was perfectly ok!

The nurse totally dismissed any benefits this may have, and that they were “actually worried” about him taking co enzyme Q10. He asked if he could have a test to see if the stenosis in his heart was the same, any better or worse, before they increased his medications. They said the tests imposed too much risk and went on to tell him how their medical advice is “scientifically proven” implying that 5000 years of traditional medicine stood for nothing, without having any knowledge of the matter!

I was appalled at the way this person totally belittled his opinion and how righteously they acted!

I would also like to add that he was overweight before his heart attack and has shifted nearly two stone since May due to his exercise program. He was depressed, racked with pain due to the MS.

Post heart attack, I saw my husband coming back to life, he started to regain his health, he felt happier, fitter and looked amazing!

Well that was before that nurse enlightened him with their scientific proven knowledge! A major step back for him!

We're really sorry that this clinic follow-up appointment didn't go well and felt like a backwards step. Reading your message, this may have been down to poor communication.
