"Diabetic Unit"

About: Queen Marys Hospital (Sidcup)

Since being diagnosed with diabetes in 1991 I have received excellent care from this unit, I really have nothing but praise for the entire staff. Unfortunately it is necessary for me to use a hospital wheelchair when I attend for a check up and today was appalled to discover the new state of the art wheelchairs would not go through single doors.

Fortunately my husband realised this would be the case when I went for a blood test yesterday and took my Zimmer frame with us.

When he expressed his fears to me I thought he was wrong as I could not imagine a hospital purchasing wheelchairs that would only go through double doors.

A nurse had to take my blood pressure in the waiting area as the wheelchair would not go through the door to their room.

My husband also had difficulty getting the wheelchair into the lift.

I hate to be negative but this really is a problem.
