"Undiagnosed Breach Baby Born At Home"

About: Lister Hospital / Maternity

21.07.16 Two Paramedics arrived at our home as our baby was being born rather quickly. They remained very calm considering the rarity of this situation. I did not realise my baby was being born in the breach position. They did not panic either me or my partner. A midwife arrived and helped to deliver the body of our baby very calmly. They also stayed with me after the birth and in the ambulance to the hospital. Two other midwives arrived and helped deliver the head of my baby, which was proving to be very stuck. As a team effort we all managed to successfully deliver the babies head. 2 further paramedics arrived to take care of our baby. The support from all 7 members of this team was absolutely phenomenal. They remained calm throughout this difficult, rare birth and helped each other out at an outstanding level of professionalism. It was overwhelming for all of us involved and with the high level of skill and support from all involved we now have a happy, healthy baby girl. I have never been in an emergency situation before and I can honestly say that they helped me keep calm and not panic. All three midwives have been in touch with me since the birth and I would like to thank them all for saving my baby and being utterly fantastic with their jobs. They are an absolute credit to the NHS and I am proud to have met them and see what incredible work they do. The paramedics were beyond amazing and I would like to thank them all for helping to deliver my baby and for transporting both me and my baby (separately) to Lister hospital. One midwife took care of me at Lister hospital and the care i received from them was so wonderful. They were so kind and caring and told me to stay strong for my little baby (who i didn't get to see for 4 hours. She was too poorly.) This midwife also taught me how to hand express my milk and talked me through everything that had been happening. They made me hot chocolates and gave me lots of hugs. I would also like to thank them for being so kind to me, sitting on the edge of the bed and holding my hand when talking about my baby. My Husband and I would like to say a huge thank you to the ANTS team who transported our baby to Addenbrooks in Cambridge. They also were extremely kind, friendly and honest with us. They made everything so clear for us to understand and we completely trusted putting our baby into their safe hands. They also transported our baby back to Lister hospital 12 days later. Thank you to everyone who helped our daughter to survive her very difficult birth.

Thank you so much for getting in touch Natalie - sounds like you had a very tough time of it, but glad that you had all the support you needed from the paramedics and maternity teams. We'll pass your review on to them and in the meantime, please accept our best wishes for the future to you your now slightly bigger family!
