"Broken ankle surgery"

About: North Manchester General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

I was blown away with the level of care given to me from my arrival at Fairfield A&E, transfer to I5 at North Mcr and the ambulances journey in between. The staff who looked after me really cared, put me at my ease, made me feel I mattered. I arrived on I5 at 2.30am on my own in just my netball kit, I was given nightware, toiletries and made to feel nothing was too much trouble. I was kept informed with what was happening, kept free from pain and when my surgery was delayed for another day, I was given tea and toast almost immediately as I'd been fasting. What struck me most was the human care given to the elderly patients on the ward, all nursing staff at all levels did not stop once, yet managed to make sure the older patients were drinking, eating and kept clean, they mattered, and that was really lovely to see. Working for the NHS appears to be a vocation and my experience on this ward was seeing staff working over and above expectations and they should be really proud to be part of such a team .
