I had my procedure at the Doncaster clinic today, and would like to say thank you to all the staff at the clinic for making the procedure as pleasant and easy as it could’ve been, under the circumstances. Everyone from the Receptionists, Nurses, Client care staff and Doctor put me at ease from the consultation all the way through to the operation itself.
At no point did I feel judged - in fact quite the opposite. All of the staff were so lovely and sympathetic and ensured that I was fully informed of all my options and had the opportunity to ask as many questions as I needed – which admittedly being a bag of nerves was a lot.
The procedure itself was relatively quick, but I never felt rushed. I opted for the local anaesthetic, so was awake for the surgery. In hindsight I regret opting for this method, as it did upset me more than I thought it would (however this was my decision, and other options were offered to me), but I was glad to have such a lovely team reassuring me and keeping me talking / preoccupied throughout. After the procedure I was given as much time as I needed to recuperate with a cup of tea and biscuits before returning to my partner in the waiting room.
It has to be said that I didn’t have the greatest start with the BPAS hotline (nothing to do with the staff at the Doncaster clinic), and found myself on the line with a less than sympathetic call operative, leaving me in floods of tears at an already upsetting time. But I’m glad I persevered with BPAS. For anyone in the same situation, please don’t be put off if you have a negative experience on the hotline, as the positive experience I had at the Doncaster Clinic (thanks to all of its staff) far outweighed any prior unpleasant encounters.
