"4 month wait for a 10 minute appointment"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Urology

(as the patient),

I needed to visit Tameside General Hospital Urology clinic. I went to my GP several months ago and a referral letter was sent to TGH. After several phone calls to the appointment office I got my appointment letter for 4 months later. I was examined and my condition and prognosis explained in less than 10 minutes! I had to wait over 4 months with all the anxiety that goes with it to be in and out in less than 10 mins. I appreciate that my referral was non urgent and I do not have a life threatening decease and that this was not waiting for a surgical procedure. However, surely the wait time is grossly disproportionate to the appt time.

We are really sorry you have had cause to raise this concern following a non-urgent referral.

We will ensure your comments feed into the clinical team and referral management team.

Update posted by Civil Servant (the patient)

Thank you for your prompt reply, it is appreciated. I do feel really strongly that the type of referral should be taken into account when scheduling appointments. The diagnosis for my condition means that treatment of drugs is not offered on the NHS and surgery is not recommended. The advice I received was to wait 18 months. In essence I feel I was no further forward after waiting over 4 months.
