I had an appointment at RIE to discuss a surgical procedure which I didn't want, but doctors had made the decision without consulting me. The surgeon and I agreed that the op would not improve my already good quality of life and agreed that it would only become necessary when/if things deteriorated. Two weeks later I received a letter with an appointment at RIE. Nobody could tell me what the purpose was, and I asked if I could instead be referred to a doctor at my local hospital. This was never acted upon, so I made the 120-mile round trip to RIE where I was seen by a very nice young doctor who wanted to discuss the same op which I had already declined, and declined again. My notes had not been updated and he did not have results of any tests which had been done in the past 6 months to monitor my condition. He decided I should now be referred to someone at my local hospital. I will probably be seen in a year's time. Why can a doctor in RIE not access the info held by my GP? Today has been a total waste of mine and NHS resources, and a total waste of a doctor's time. And they complain about shortage of money for the NHS and doctors with too much to do! Somebody needs to have a wee word with themselves, or backsides need kicking! Communication is not rocket science in this age of the email! Or is it?
