The staff on Vaughan Thomas ward are wonderful. They all do their very best under what are often trying circumstances. There is a calm caring atmosphere and it's clear the staff are a cohesive group. Despite being a busy ward nothing seems too much trouble. All the staff including the housekeeping staff are very kind. Sometimes not everyone has all the information but this is understandable given the high number of patients. In months and months of visiting no one has ever been anything but kind. They are also very un 'rule bound' wihilst remaining safe and secure.
If something is wrong and a doctor is not available the nurses are prepared to take a risk and make decisions on their own initiative. Even though resources, time etc are very limited for mental health patients I believe that the staff of Vaughan Thomas, without exception, all do their very very best for patients with what resources they have It truly is a place of safety in which to recover.
You can hope that there will be time enough for you to stay in Vaughan Thomas to enable staff to truly get to know you and give the correct treatment to get you really well but even if this is not entirely and completely possible you will benefit immeasurably from the care and kindness of the staff.
