"Better communication required"

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital

My husband was taken to hospital in June with auto immune pancreatitis , he's diabetic so his blood sugars were high he was put on a ward after coming through A and E . In the week following he was given a ct scan his blood sugars were sorted then he was sent home , nothing done about the pancreatitis or CT scan . Two weeks later we are down the same road back in hospital high blood sugar and pancreatitis this time they took a look at the scan they had done last time , they sent in gastro Drs and pain Drs neither of them had discussed my husbands problem so neither had a plan . They decided to perform a pain block this was arranged for two weeks later so again he was sent home . Two days before the pain block we had to call the ambulance again and he was taken back in with yet another pancreatic attack . He was told on the day of the op it couldn't be done . He was in a side room alone and was often forgotten only getting one cup of tea a day and sometimes they forgot his meals , he was on two hourly medication but was lucky if he got it twice a day . He couldn't shower himself and no one to help so he had to wait for me to help him . After a week of trying I eventually got to speak to a surgeon who said we are referring him to addenbrooks , why wasn't this done in the first place we have wasted weeks when that should have been done way back in June when he was first admitted . He was sent home yet again only this time his condition was worse than when he went in as he couldn't walk and his stomach is swollen , so now he's in a wheelchair and bedridden most days , we have an appt for a CT scan at addenbrooks tomorrow and a consultation in two weeks time , but this was arranged by us and our GP . If the CT scan shows anything they should have picked up in Norwich we will not be pleased and would consider taking it higher . There's no communication between consultants . We left the place feeling that's another ten days we've just wasted . Very disappointed with the place , gives you no confidence in the hospital whatsoever .

To contact PALS, email pals@nnuh.nhs.uk
