"Car Parking"

About: Wokingham Community Hospital

The car parking in the hospital grounds is excellent but spoilt by what I believe is the unwrranted use by car commuters using the hospital as a car park to avoid paying in the railway staion car park. This practice should be stopped by fining or wheel clamping people who are not visiting the hospital for medical reasons. Easy enough by staff parking badges and issuing a ticket at a barrier which can be validated for exit by reception staff on a valid hospital visit. Exit barrier where they pay a minumim charge of £15 if the ticket is not validated, similiar to Frimley Park. Many times I have found cars parked in clearly labeled disabled bays by cars not displayng valid blue badges

Response from Wokingham Community Hospital

Thank you for your posting and valuable feedback. I have been in touch with our Facilities Manager in West Berkshire. We are actively seeking ways to address the high usage of the car park at Wokingham hospital. We have recently undergone some car park monitoring sessions; greeting cars upon entry and monitoring the occupant's reasons for attending site. The results from this revealed that there are actually less than 5 drivers, throughout an entire day,who try to use the car park inappropriately. This increase in cars using the car park is a recent issue and possibly a temporary one. However, although parking is free at the moment, we will continue to monitor this situation, including the use of disabled bays as the inappropriate use of these bays is something which we strongly discourage.

Unfortunately, due to the building capacity exceeding the car park capacity this is not an easy situation to resolve. However, if you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours Sincerely,

Trevor Lyalle
