"Bury Integrated MSK Service - Superb"

About: Fairfield General Hospital

I have had intermittent knee problems for a number of years, and now its become persistent and debilitating now require a new, full diagnosis in order to treat effectively. My GP referred me to 'the hospital...', initially the paperwork was somewhat confusing because it didnt fully explain what this service was and appeared to be just another physiotherapy appointment, which I had to clarify because physio wasn't working.

The receptionist explained it was an appointment with "a specialist who would send me in the right direction".

It was a speedy referral with a hospital not too far from me.

On arrival I was instantly put at ease by my Advanced Physiotherapy Practioner who gave me a thorough examination and took the time to explain in detail what they were looking for, what they were observing and why. They clearly took note of what had previously been prescribed, and what clinical treatments I had undergone, I was given a number of options which gave me the confidence to take on board their opinion and follow their advice albeit different from my initial ideas.

I was quickly referred for further tests and also to start a new type of physio activity.

Overall I feel this service was and is, invaluable!

I didn't need a consultants time at this stage, but anyone less experienced would have wasted both my time and probably done little more than my GP, guessing and trying things.

Its a shame they dont offer this level of care in other departments and specialties, it would save a lot of time and wasted NHS money in the long term.

Can't praise enough.
