I am the mother of an adult patient and I have her permission to make a comment about her recent experience 22nd September 2016.My daughter has just left an appointment with a consultant Rheumatologist, who had previously given her a diagnosis of some form of arthritis and she was prescribed strong chemo drugs which gave her so many side effects she was taken off them. Now the consultant tells her that her problem is 'mechanical'.She was offered an appointment in 1 years time, 'to keep an eye on things' She is in pain which is sometimes severe and she has had to leave work early because she is in so much pain and she struggles to cope with everyday life. She was told to take paracetamol and lose weight. My daughter has had a total hysterectomy, had several operations to remove adhesions. She has to take hormone replacement and anti depressants all of which don't help with weight loss. She swims as much as she can and is trying to stick to an anti inflammatory diet. She feels that her last appointment has left her feeling that life is not worth living. The attitude of most of the doctors she has seen, with one exception, has been dismissive and uncaring. No one consults with her properly as to the risks or benefits of treatment . Thus she had a total hysterectomy which was supposed to cure endometriosis, was given pain medication at pain clinic which gave her seratonin syndrome. She has had multiple treatments all of which she complies with often to the detriment of her physical and mental health. She doesn't know what to do to get help and I fear she feels her life is over aged 38.
