"Endoscopy Service, Queen Margaret Hospital"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Endoscopy

(as the patient),

They put a camera down my throat into my stomach to have a look around and to take a biopsy or three. I didn't take any anaesthetic as I react badly to the one on offer, and I didn't want the sedative as I wanted to go to work in the afternoon.

Having the camera down my throat was quite unpleasant and became painful. During the procedure one of the ladies said soothing things and held my hand, which was helpful. The other two ladies did their work in full sight of my very obvious discomfort - and eventual quite severe pain.

But I am glad that they did so; it wasn't so bad that I wouldn't do it again if required, but given the option of doing it properly and thoroughly then or cutting it short and having a return visit, I would rather get it all done on the first occasion.

Dear BiggestHobo

Thank you for taking the time to post your story.

I am glad that you managed to have your gastroscopy and biopsies completed on the day. You were very brave, managing to have it done without any anaesthetic throat spray or sedation and it sounds like our staff supported you well through your procedure.

If you feel it would be helpful to chat to me about your experience, give me a call on 01592 643355 ext 20148.

Thanks again for posting, I hope you have recovered well

Kind regards

Gill Ogden
