My nephew was re-admitted to the Kent & Sussex hospital for the second time, following an orthopaedic operation during which he became infected. Cleansing of the incision, and the affected joint, had to be performed - again - in theatre. Intravenous antibiotics are necessary. On his arrival in the ward he was allocated a bed which I thought smelt of faeces. I also thought the bedside cupboard was dirty and sticky. He was assured by a member of staff that they had been cleaned.
Why are basic hygiene rules not in operation in this particular ward at this hospital?
"Cleanliness, cleanliness, cleanliness"
