"Endoscopy experience at Queen Mary's"

About: Wandsworth PCT

(as the patient),

I recently needed an endoscopy and chose to have it done at Queen Marys in Roehampton.

My previous experience of endoscopy was observing as a nurse, but this was different because it was me on the trolley and having a tube put down!!

I was very nervous, and decided to have all the drugs they could give me!! so i would know nothing about it!!

However, the experience was as good as it could have been.

Nurses were friendly and informative. I didnt have to get undressed, and was able to walk into the endoscopy room whereupon the brilliant doctor ( Dr Hartley, a local GP) shook my hand, introduced himself, chatted about my job, and explained the procedure.

Because of his excellent communication skills and manner , i then felt able to have the procedure without drugs and just had a throat spray, which meant i was up and out in half an hour and left feeling very pleased with myself!!. So doctors take note, communication is the key, to happy patients, quicker procedures and less money on medication!!!
