"Amazing caring professionals"

About: Leeds General Infirmary / Plastic surgery

After undergoing surgery my wound got infected which caused the area to swell and bleed and was very painful. I contacted my consultant who requested me to come and see them that day as an emergency appointment. Upon seeing them they diagnosed the infection type they thought it was and immediately organised a bed on ward 38 at LGI.

We transferred over there was the staff and registrar had been informed by my consultant and started to treat me as soon as I arrived on the ward and within 2/3 hours of my initial consultation was tucked up in bed on antibiotic drips. Two days later I had follow up surgery to clear out the infection quicker. My consultant was very clear in all the reasoning behind the extra surgery and the implications and risks so I could make a fully informed decision to go ahead.

The surgery went well and I needed to continue the antibiotics on the ward for another few days. The staff on the ward were some of the most professional and caring people I have ever come across in the NHS. The ward was full and extremely busy but they kept going and made sure that everyone got what they needed and were kind and courteous and ensured everybody's privacy during treatment. The ward was very clean and tidy, beds changed daily etc.

My consultant and

Registrar were the best possible doctors I could have had they could not have done anything else for me and I left the ward feeling fit and well again after a 7 day stay.

I had to attend the plastic surgery dressing clinic from there and have to say the staff here were very impressive. Very knowledgable and helpful. My wound was examined and cleaned thoroughly each time I attended and I was given spare dressings for at home and clear instructions of how to keep the area clean.

I am now just under the care of my consultant whilst my wound finishes to heal which will bring to an end a 7 year journey through various hospitals and doctors with varying degrees of success but I couldn't be happier at where this has ended, the plastic surgery team have done an amazing job and hopefully ended my problems for good, for which only saying thank you doesn't feel enough.
