"Long wait"

About: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital / Ophthalmology

Horrible waiting times and conditions.

I have to go every few months to sit their for average of 2- 3 hours with a son with special needs.

Last time it was over 1 half hours just to see orthoptics people were going infront of us. I kept tellling them at the desk, then the nurse, it was a joke.

When i finally went through they said they didnt know what had happened to my notes.

Same usual joke which is obvious they were piling the new people on top instead of underneath and this has happened on so many occassions.

When are they going to change the system like they do at the doctors and you go in in order of your time and not just where your notes are dumped.

Response from Patient Experience Team, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Ms J Gray, Head Orthoptist, would like to offer her apologies that you and your child had such a poor experience at your recent visit to our clinic. It is very unusual for our patients to wait over an hour for orthoptics, it is likely that there was a specific issue with your child's notes during your visit that caused this delay for which we are very sorry.

May we reassure you that we do not prioritise new patients in clinic and we are very sorry that you have been given this impression. We do try to see patients in time order, however we often have several busy clinics running at the same time and we see patients with a variety of complex conditions, some of whom need input from specific consultants. Once again we apologise for this delay.

It is very difficult to respond to your individual concerns without being able to investigate in detail. To do this we would need more information. If you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk they will be happy to discuss this with you and liaise with the orthoptic department.
