"Aftercare for missed miscarriage "

We attended this hospital for a dating scan, and during the scan were informed that the baby had stopped developing a few weeks previously. We were told to go to a "sitting room" where a midwife would come to tell us the options from here. We waited for what seemed like an eternity. When the midwife arrived we were given the leaflets for expectant management and surgical management only and these were outlined briefly as the only options. I was surprised and asked about medical management. The midwife said she would call the EPAU. We then waited again for a very long time, before she came back to tell us that this was also an option. I do not think there was any leaflet available at this hospital for this course of treatment. The midwife admitted to me to being non-expert in this area and suggested we call the EPAU with questions.

All the staff that dealt with us appeared to care and did their best. Unfortunately I don't feel that they were equipped to deal with this situation. Having only 2 of the 3 options explained, and poorly at that I do not think is not acceptable. Had I not known of the 3rd option myself then I could have ended up having a treatment method I did not want (I did opt for medical management).

The waiting was also a horrific experience for me. Having just received the shocking news we had my husband and I really wanted to leave, but needed the next steps explaining. I understand that staff are very busy, but maybe we could have been given an appointment time to come back later to be given the options? We could then maybe have had a walk around and collected our thoughts somewhat.

We were in the hospital for 3 hours of which maybe 10 mins were spent with the sonographer and maybe 10 mins with the midwife. The rest of the time I felt was waiting to be told half information.
