"Daycare unit In Princess Royal Maternity Hospital Glasgow"

About: The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Maternity care (wards 68, 72 &73)

(as the patient),

I attended for review of suspected DVT. I had been in the Wards in the Maternity Hospital where I had received excellent and compassionate care from the Midwives and Dr Wong in particular. She took the time to sit down next to me and explain things and answer my questions. I had to wait to be seen and stay overnight but the reasons for this were explained and I was updated regularly throughout my stay.

I was booked to attend the Daycare unit for review. I was greeted by a receptionist and saw a healthcare assistant to requested urine sample and placed me on a blood pressure monitor. Nothing was explained and I was sat for almost 2 hours on a blood pressure monitor before being seen by a midwife who did not know why I was there and realised the blood pressure monitoring was not indicated or required. No one measured or even looked at my legs. She spoke with the doctor who did not come and see me and gave advice for calf cramp not DVT and I was discharged. The doctor did not even come into the room to say hello. Compared to the excellent care I received from my doctor and the staff on ward 76 I was quite shocked.
