I had an accident a few weeks ago. I became increasingly worried some symptoms were not going away and worsening as I tried to get back to my studies after the leave. Pain in my hand, shoulder and neck in particular. The GP suspected a pinched nerve and referred me to the neurologist. By no means am I contesting the diagnosis (which was that there is really nothing wrong - maybe some soft tissue damage after whiplash). However when I asked what I could do about the pain the GP just dismissed me and told me I should get back to work like normal (which requires a lot of use of the arm that hurts, and causes very strong pain ) and not use this problem as an excuse to fail a degree!! When I was exactly asking for advice how to make it work because I am very concerned about it affecting my work! Then the GP said stress is bad for me so I should try not being stressed, after all its just my own problem and perception. I left the place extremely upset. Not only do I still not know what to do about the pain, I was also made to feel like I was just looking for excuses for other things in my life. Horrible doctor with no patient skills whatsoever.
"Horribly dismissive treatment by the neurologist"
