"Treated very well at Day case"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital / Gynaecology

I was admitted for two gynaecology procedures as a day case on 5th September. I have generalised anxiety disorder and I cannot commend the staff more for how well they looked after me and reassured me every step of the way. Admission was quick, I saw the nurse, anaesthetist and doctor very quickly after admission, before being taken to get changed. Once I was taken to the ward I burst into tears and the support worker and nurses looking after me were so lovely and reassuring. I had a panic attack in the anaesthetic room too and the staff there were so nice, explained everything they were doing, calmed me down and we talked about my holiday. The next thing I knew I was awake in the recovery ward asking why my arm hurt (i was very dopey after coming round and didn't realise I was only having my blood pressure taken!) It took a little while for me to recover because of the medication I had to calm me down before the op, but the whole time the staff nurse on the ward looked after me well, and explained what was happening, what I needed to do. They got me my things, helped while I was dopey, and got me a drink and painkillers. Every single member of staff that I met was lovely and caring and I wish I could see them again to say thank you while not under the influence of anaesthetic or painkillers! The only complaint I had was that a member of staff left the curtain open while I was in a state of undress while they were looking for a pair of hospital underwear so I could go to the toilet. The same member of staff took a long time to attend after I'd pressed the call button, and seemed impatient with me when I asked if I would be discharged soon, even though my discharge papers were ready. That said, the rest of the experience was brilliant and if a member of my family or a friend was going to be admitted, I would tell them not to worry and they'll be well looked after.
