My young daughter fractured her ankle, and had a first operation the following day. We were told she would need K-wires, but none were used, no explanation to provide reassurance, no communication with consultants, Nurses on Ward 2 were fantastic but could only read what were in the notes so no further clarification. Follow up appointment one week later, x-ray showed movement with the fracture so another operation the following day to insert k-wires. Additionally, we were advised to attend the hospital at 7: 30am despite being placed on the afternoon list, so my daughter went without food from 7pm until after the operation the following afternoon. The ward manager called me while I was on the ward to inform me to come in for 11: 00am. I was not happy as we'd missed the point at which she could eat in the morning. As a result of all the above I requested transfer of care to Huddersfield and was assured it would be discussed the following day and the consultants would start the process. She was discharged and told we would have a week follow up appointment. 10 days later and I'm chasing the hospital to find out what's going on, after making numerous calls to the Ward, speaking to consultant secretaries and being promised calls back and reassured her care would be sorted, still no call back, it will be 2 weeks tomorrow since her 2nd operation and the 1 week follow-up has now passed. Truly awful experience, poor communication and processes and still in limbo with a child with a full leg cast! Still waiting for someone to tell me where she is in the system
