"My mother, aged 90, was admitted ..."

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital

(as a relative),

What could be improved

My mother, aged 90, was admitted to EDGH via MAU and thence to the Medical Day Unit (MDU) - a misnomer if ever there was - as she remained there for 8 days, allegedly due to shortage of beds. She was actually discharged, dressed and ready to go home (via hospital transport) on day 7; 23 hours later, confused, tired and upset, she finally left. No one on the ward called me to advise of this totally unacceptable delay; had they done so, I would have hired a private wheelchair bus. Shortage of beds eh? well here's one area for improvement!

Anything else?

Yes, but insufficient time/energy to compile

The Medical Day Unit has recently been used as an inpatient area due to the high demand for beds and has not been functioning as a day unit during this period. Your comments about the signage of this area during the period of your mothers stay are helpful and we will be reviewing the signage of such areas.
