"A&E - made to feel like an idiot"

About: St Richard's Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was at an obstacle race called Nuts Challenge and hurt my shoulder. After sealing medical advice at the event they told me to go to a&e and get my shoulder X-rayed as I may have done more than just muscular damage..may have dislocated it slightly. The triage nurse didn't do much seemed pointless seeing them for the whole 2mins I did. Then when I finally saw a doctor they made me feel like a total idiot for coming to a&e on the advice I was given by fully trained medics at an event where serious injuries can happen! As much as I can appreciate it may be muscular injury I am not impressed to be made to feel like an idiot when follows up on medical advice I was given at an organised event.

We are sorry that your recent experience in our A&E department was unsatisfactory and we will certainly share your feedback with the department.

As this site is anonymous we cannot look into the circumstances in very much detail but if you would like to discuss this with us, please contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service on 01243 831822 or by e-mail to palschichester@wsht.nhs.uk.

We do hope your injury is improving and once again apologise for your poor impression.
