I had a long wait for a routine eye operation at the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham. I was asked to report to the Day Care section at 7.30am. However, when I arrived, I was told by an apologetic nurse that I was scheduled to be the seventh of the morning, and that she expected that I would be operated on at about 11.00. In the end, my operation took place at about 12.15, almost five hours after I had arrived.
I wrote to complain, and have just received a reply from the hospital agreeing with my concern and saying that they had a project underway to sort out the scheduling system.
Finally, I should add that my experience in all other respects was excellent – staff were friendly and courteous and the quality of clinical care was, as far as I can judge, very good. It’s just the scheduling system that needs to be improved.
