"From A&E to SAU to Marham Ward"

About: The Queen Elizabeth Hospital / General surgery

I was on a day out in Hunstanton with my husband and my 21 months old. We were about to set off back home and I started haemorrhaging. Ambulance was called and I was taken to Queen Elizabeth whilst my husband took our daughter home to my parents' for the night. There were 7 ambulances parked outside A&E and I didn't have to wait for long before I was taken to SAU. Assessed and bloods taken and then moved to Marham Ward. The SHO and nurses were very good. In Marham Ward all the staff were very attentive. They tried to get me in for a scan as they knew I wanted to get sorted and go home. The scan was next day. Next day I was given a time for the scan. After the scan I passed so much blood I became unconscious. When I came round I was quickly taken back to Marham Ward where they quickly checked my blood pressure etc. The Specialist Dr and Consultant came to see me within 3 hours and said I needed emergency surgery but not sure when. More bloods were taken and they quickly decided I needed surgery there and then. The Theatre Charge Nurse came to get me within half an hour and I was suddenly surrounded by 6 staff to prepare me for theatre. Went back to Marham Ward to recover and was able to be discharged next morning. From the moment I arrived at Queen Elizabeth to the moment I was able to go home I could not fault anything. The hospital was clean. All the staff from the Ambulance crew, A&E, SHO, Nurses, Drs, Student Nurses, Support Workers, Consultants, Anaesthetist, Theatre Charge Nurse, Surgeons, to cleaners - they were all rushed off their feet and still managed to provide a top class service. Keep up the good work Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Will definitely use this hopsital again if it weren't so far for me to get to.
