"totally forgotten about!"

About: Leeds General Infirmary / Accident and emergency

I was admitted at 8.30am to the A&E department. Saw a nurse and had initial tests run within 40min of presentation. I was then given a room within the department so I could lie down while waiting for the doctor. I was told I would be seen in about an hour, but this could be less. The door was shut and I was left in the room for four hours. No one came to check on me during this time. I was only seen by the doctor at 2pm when I came to ask for more pain relief. On leaving the hospital I had a number of answer phone messages on my mobile from the department from a few hours previously asking where I was (about 11.30am). My phone was switched off while in the hospital so I could not receive these messages while there. The messages said the staff had spent a considerable amount of time looking for me and if I had left I should have let someone know. I did not leave the room once so it seems the staff totally forgot they had put me there, did not check the room when looking for me and then (assuming I had left) removed me from the system waiting list. I appreciate this is a busy department or would have asked to see someone sooner. I also noticed a few blood splatters on the wall by the bed.
