"Emergency referral"

About: Manchester Royal Eye Hospital / Ophthalmology

I was referred to this hospital as an emergency by my optician. I have to say the department was extremely busy. However, although the waiting time was considerable I have to say the treatment I received could not have been better. I was seen assessed examined thoroughly and received preventative laser eye treatment to prevent loss of sight on the same day. I saw first hand how staff had hardly a minute to spare, the doctor who I saw was interrupted repeatedly by phone calls during my consultation, still I cannot complain about the care I received, but surely more staff are needed to relieve the pressure these dedicated people are under.

Only one negative I was charged £15 for 6 hours parking!!

Ms H Bateman, Matron at MREH was very sorry to receive your comments following your attendance at the Emergency Eye Department (EED) via the NHS Choices website. The Division has recognised that the area can at times be extremely busy and has recently ensured that more senior staff are on duty throughout the day.

Ms Bateman has advised that there is provision for the refund of car park charges above £5.00 where the delay is due to a wait in the clinical area and she would like to offer her apologies if this service was not offered to you.

It is very difficult to respond to your individual concerns without being able to investigate in detail. To do this we would need more information. If you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk they will be happy to discuss this with you and liaise with EED.
