"Not impressed with the doctor"

About: Poole General Hospital

Having received excellent treatment at my intial vist to the fracture clinic (after being plastered at RBCH), I returned to have my plaster removed and wrist x-rayed.

I was then seen by a doctor who stood up during my consultation, making it difficult for me to follow what they were saying as clearly as I had to look up some way to see their face.

They proceeded to tell me that my scaphoid fracture was healing well, this despite the fact that I had been originally told that I had not injured my scaphoid but had fractured 2 bones in the other side of my wrist.

I had to tell them this so they returned to check the x-ray.

They clearly had not even read my notes but had just assumed it was a scaphoid problem as apparently this is the most common wrist injury. It transpired that they had sent me to have my scaphoid x-rayed but insisted they could see the other broken bones on the x-ray too and that they were healing well.

I was given a splint but absolutely no after care information other than when to wear it by the very helpful person in the plaster room.

I had told the doctor that it was still very painful but they did not tell me that this was normal nor give me any exercises to do.

I have subsequently found leaflets from other hospitals by searching on the internet and this has somewhat reassured me about the pain but I should not have needed to do this.

I am not happy that the doctor did not read my notes, nor reassure me about the pain, nor give me any aftercare information and this left me feeling very concerned that there is still a problem with my wrist.
