"nothing. i am a student nurse ..."

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

What I liked

nothing. i am a student nurse myself so know first hand the stresses of the nhs. i have worked at MRI on the ward adjacent to where i was. Admitted with aweful abdomindal pain i was sent to majors in a&e, and here i stayed for 12 hours. despite being awake all night and screaming in agony nurses and doctors would walk past my open door and look away. i was never told if i was being admitted or what was happening. finally admitted to one of the acute mdical wards i was greeted with the usual contempt i was becomin accustomed to. i am young, 19, a busy student, who wanted dicharge as soon as possible. for 8 days i never slept, pm meds were always 3 hours late, given around 1am. buzzers went unanswered for at least 20mins and even writhing around in agony i saw a doctor twice in 8 days. the nursing staff are among some of the most uncaring, unhelpful, truely horrible people i have ever met. it seemd acceptable for a young girl to be keeping people awake crying in pain everynight. some of the nurses even told me to b quiet. when i said i would be making a formal complaint the reply was simply 'do it' i will never come back to this hospital, it will have a negative effect on me for a very long time. i am truely disturbed by the care i have recieved. i hope for the sake of more unwell patients that something is done before something happens. the place is a diaster waiting to happen

What could be improved

everything, 3specially nurses who speak english- most older patients could not understand the maority of nuurses. nurses who actually try to care and understand. i know it is very hard to work well when so unerstaffed but there wasnt any actual care in place it is diabolial

Anything else?

please management change your ways before you have many legal issues to cope with. at all times care was way below minimum, patients feel they are a hastle and pain is almost ignored. discraceful
