"East Surrey Hospital - gynochology"

About: East Surrey Hospital

Finally had a rectocele repair done on 17th August after 2 cancellation. One due to incompetence of staff. Was booked in for 3 repairs. Told by surgeon a hysterectomy was needed on my first attempt of surgery on July 11th. When I returned for actual surgery with a different surgeon they decided, after examining me in what felt like a dimly lit broom cupboard. Just had a repeat rectocele repair. As I was coming round in recovery I could hear the nurse telling me to wake up as I was going home. I was told I was an inpatient. I woke bleeding with no packing, no catheter and a very full bladder. I had to wait til I was on the ward to finally go to the toilet. Bit more involved there but trying to keep short! The toilet was filthy. I bled on the floor and told the nurse who just left me to clean it up. I said I was very thirsty but no drinks were brought to me. After being left for approx an hour and a half with no nurse checking on me I had to call my dad to bring me a drink and take me home. Disgusting treatment from start to finish. I felt so traumatised fir a few days after my treatment.

Dear Jacqui,

I was very concerned to read of your experience, this is certainly distressing and not what we would expect any of our patients to experience.

I have spoken with your surgeon, Mr Penny and he shares my concern. He has asked his secretary to contact you to arrange an appointment to see him to discuss your concerns. I will also ensure that a senior nurse for the ward is also available when you meet.

I am sorry that it has been necessary for you to raise this concern and I hope that we can take the appropriate action following a meeting with you.
